A regular health insurance handles hospital bills. You may know that already. But let us ask you something: what happens to your EMIs when you're diagnosed with cancer? What about your child's school fees when you're recovering from heart surgery? Or the groceries and rent while you're unable to work for, let’s say, six months or a year? That's the gap most people realize a little too late. Bills keep arriving. Expenses continue. Your income either stops or reduces substantially, in most cases. See, SUD Life Smart Healthcare isn't an indemnity-based health insurance policy. It's a fixed benefit critical illness health insurance plan which provides lump sum payment^ that lands in your account when you're diagnosed with any of the specified critical illness, covered under the product. Use it however you need, treatment, maintaining your lifestyle, traveling to a better hospital, or just keeping your finances stable while you focus on recovery.

What is SUD Life Smart Healthcare Plan?

SUD Life Smart Healthcare is a fixed benefit health insurance plan that gives you a fixed benefit payout upon diagnosis with critical illnesses listed in the policy document.

The plan offers three distinct coverage options. You can choose Cancer Cover or Heart Cover or plan option - Heart-Cancer-Liver-Kidney Cover.

SUD Life Smart Healthcare recognizes that any treatment towards a critical illness, creates financial strain. Under the plan, on diagnosis with minor condition of CI, you will receive 25% of your sum insured and the policy continues for the balance cover for any major conditions of CI #.

Let’s say you’re a 35-year-old man who chooses Cancer Cover with ₹10 lakh sum insured, paying premium of ₹1,107 annually for policy term of 10 years and premium payment term of 20 years. In second policy year, you’re diagnosed with early-stage cancer. You will immediately receive ₹2.5 lakhs. Additionally, your premiums get waived for three policy years. Now if in policy year nine you had to undergo a bone marrow transplant, you will again receive the remaining ₹7.5 lakhs~.

SUD Life Smart Healthcare: More Than Just a Medical Policy

Consider what actually happens when critical illness strikes. Medical treatment is obvious. But there's the income you lose when you can't work. The dietary changes require expensive supplements and nutritional support. Travel expenses for treatment at specialized centers. Childcare arrangements if both parents are managing treatment. Hiring domestic help because you can't handle household responsibilities.

SUD Life Smart Healthcare pays lump sum cash in your hands immediately after diagnosis, subject to fulfilment of conditions.

Entry age ranges from 18 to 65 years with coverage extending until the age of 80. Policy terms span from 5 to 30 years. Sum insured options range from ₹5 lakhs to ₹50 lakhs.

Covered Critical Illnesses: From Cancer to Major Surgeries

Let's get specific about coverage. Under Cancer Cover, minor conditions include early-stage cancer and carcinoma in situ. Major conditions are cancer of specified severity, aplastic anaemia, and bone marrow transplant2.

Early-stage diagnosis might not require extensive hospitalization but still demands treatment and can make you shell out from your own pocket. Receiving 25% of your sum insured at that stage provides immediate relief to you and your family.

Heart Cover includes minor conditions like angioplasty, pacemaker insertion, carotid artery surgery, pericardiectomy, and valve procedures. Major conditions covered are cardiomyopathy, heart attack, CABG surgery, heart valve replacement, pulmonary hypertension, heart transplant, and stroke among others.

The comprehensive option adds liver conditions like fulminant hepatitis and end-stage liver failure. Kidney coverage includes surgical removal of one kidney, kidney failure requiring regular dialysis, medullary cystic disease, and systemic lupus erythematosus with lupus nephritis.

Waiting periods do apply. Major conditions of critical illness have a 90-day waiting period policy commencement date, or policy revival date, whichever is later, minor conditions of CI, 180 days from date of commencement of risk/ date of revival. No Waiting Period will apply for Major CI Condition or Minor CI Condition claims arising solely due to an Accident. . A 15-day survival period requirement means you must survive 15 days from diagnosis for benefit payment.

The premium waiver provides significant value. On a valid diagnosis of first Minor CI Condition claim, in addition to the lump sum benefit, the Company will waive the premium for 3 (three) Policy Years. In case the outstanding Policy Term is less than 3 (three) years, then the premiums for the outstanding Policy Term will be waived off. The waiver of premium is applicable on first Minor CI Condition claim only. The waiver of premium will not be applicable on subsequent Minor CI Condition claim.

Understanding Coverage Limitations

SUD Life Smart Healthcare supplements your regular health insurance rather than replacing it. You may still need comprehensive health insurance for hospitalization, surgeries, and medical expenses. This plan provides lump sum amounts on diagnosis with specified CIs.

There are no death benefit or maturity benefits available under the plan.

No surrender value, no loan facility, no riders available. You cannot modify the plan mid-term. Your chosen plan option at inception continues throughout the policy term.

Maximum two minor conditions of critical illness claims are allowed during policy term, with 180-day cooling-off period between minor claims1. For example, in case if you have opted for Plan option Cancer Cover, then multiple minor condition of claims for the same organ will not be admitted by the Company. Please read sales brochure for more details.

Should you buy SUD Life Smart Healthcare Plan?

SUD Life Smart Healthcare provides cash flow when you need it most. It's not about investment returns or getting money back. It's about having ₹5-10 lakh available immediately upon critical illness diagnosis.

Strong family history of heart disease or cancer makes choosing SUD Life Smart Healthcare with specific coverage practical. Premiums remain affordable without creating significant financial burden, yet payouts make genuine difference when needed.

Young professionals in their 30s and 40s with income-dependent families benefit particularly. While critical illness diagnosis isn't common at this age, it's not unheard of. The financial impact of diagnosis without this buffer can put a dent into family finances overnight.

Premiums paid towards SUD Life Smart Healthcare qualify for tax deductions, reducing effective cost under Section 80D of the Income Tax Act, 1961. Benefit receivable in the event of diagnosis of CI payouts are typically tax exempt.
